Tips for your son to have a succesful week at camp!

Tips for Helping Your Son Have a Successful Week

• Your son will miss you and that is perfectly fine!  When you send notes or cards, express your hope that they are having fun.  Avoid sending notes with how much you miss them.  It makes boys feel guilty for leaving you to have their own fun.  Avoid phone calls for the same reason.

• Practice independence before you go to camp.  If he doesn’t already, practice using the shower and bathroom without help.  Allow your son to sleep over at a friend’s house or family members house without you prior to coming to camp.

• Make sure your son spends time playing outside prior to his arrival at camp.  Let them spend time without air conditioning prior to the arrival.  Scouts spend most of their day outside and do a great deal of walking at camp.

• Learn and follow the expectations of being at Scout Camp.  The Boy Scouts of America has rules for a reason, and everyone is safer and happier when we are all following camp expectations.

A great way to understand many of the expectations and procedures of our camp is to complete Youth Protection Training, which is available online at http://www.myscouting.org.  This training is required for all adults planning to stay at camp.
