Northampton Trail to Town Camporee

Wind Gap Borough, an Appalachian Trail Community, is joining Pennsylvania Senator Scavello, Slate Belt Rising, and Troop 34 to host the Trail to Town Camporee. This event is designed to highlight the Appalachian Trail while offering outstanding scouting activities to its participants. Community organizations will also be on hand exhibiting and sharing their available services and resources.

Trail to Town Offers Three Different Camper Experiences

  • Base Camper Participant - The Base Camper Adventure introduces basic scout skills. It offers opportunities for scouts to develop first-aid, navigation, and nature skills to fulfill rank requirements for tenderfoot, second class, and first class.
  • Base Camper Youth Instructor - This is for scouts who are first class or higher and not participating in the Backpacker Adventure Program. These scout volunteer as Youth Instructors for the Base Camper program, teaching basic scout skills. First Class scouts will have the opportunity to complete the Cyber Chip requirements and Star scouts will complete Life Rank Requirement #6.
  • Backpacker Adventure - The Backpacker Adventure offers a backpacking experience, geared for first class scouts and higher. Scouts open the event with a "shake-down" Friday night at Wind Gap Park before setting up camp. The next morning, Backpackers prepare breakfast, break down camp, load their packs, and board a bus that will transport them to Fox Gap. They will spend the day on the AT hiking from Fox Gap to Wind Gap. The 9.5 mile Trail to Town hike will return to Wind Gap Park after about 6 hours on the trail.
